THE FUTURE, CHANGE AND PROGRESS

American people always don't care about their history because they think the future is more important for them. Americans prefer to make a practical plan for their future rather than consider about their history. Moreover, they believe that if they work hard, they can change everything to be new, even their history. Therefore, new things are better than old things in American's mind.
A long time ago, American used their hands and tools to build their country which has already been the greatest nation in the world. Several years ago, footsteps were printed on the moon by American astronants because they just want to prove they could do that. That means history was fixed by human being. that the reasons for which Ameicans don't like to learn their history or culture.
Furthermore, Ameiricans don't like traditional custom or culture handled by religion, powerful people and notable people.
However, there are a lot of people who are living in the third world. these kinds of people can not change their mind as Americans because the world is different and life is different as well. In these countries, residents existed on food and water, they also hope to have somehow peaceful life, so they can not do something like ameicans because they don't have the civil rights and social invonrment as same as Ameica.

Personal response:

From this part of article, I learned some uesful ideas that can let me know American's value. However, in my opinion, the assumption was a big deal that I was not agree with because sometimes the assumption can be positive and sometimes it can be negative. I also want to discuss about the last paragraph because it should have been a big difference between the American society and other countries. I think people who is living in poor and conservative nations can not have the same rights like Ameicans. " don't try to let your feet in other person's shoes" was a good sentence that can be used to admonish Ameicans. well, American social value was a good example to instruct people. we can use for reference.

Anilysis of the short story in blog
- Author's point of view
the author tried to tell us a positive attitude through the story that can influence their life and make their children to be successful.
- personal reflection
Sometimes, the parents personalities influence their children, especially innocent chidren who can not reach the true result. Parents, who have had children, should try to be genaral, honesty, and kind. these kinds of good characteristics can make their child to be a nice person in the future. Moreover, Life needs understanding for each other between the famliy and family, even husband and wife. Although we often have some different opinion or perspective in our simple life, we have to solve the problems that conduct a crisis.

summary of American want more regulation of economy

Statistics show that almost 75% American citizens believe that regulation deficiency conducted American financial crisis. In fact, the terrible economic situation has already influenced the common people. Therefore, American people hope the presidental condidates, who will able to settle this kind of problem in the future. Moreover, the official investigation reflected its concern in bad American economy. Almost all respondents were concerned about their financial security.
The very important thing is how government handle the economic crisis vbefore the new president is elected. Furthermore, the new president of United States must solve six economic problems which are rather important such as tax increasing, homeless people and unemployment rate. However, there were some arguments regarding the regulation. Some people say there was a little regulation and some people say there was too much.
However, in previous years, people didn't want too much regulation, even economic crisis happened, but today, a lot of people want to pass some new laws no matter they come from republic or democreatic party as well as they are rich or poor.
On the other hand, some people think the goverment don't need to make some new laws for bad economy. In fact, greediness was the big issue that has to solve at present time. for instance, Lopez, who is a old lady living in rural area, was a rather conseicative woman. she saved her money in a triditional way that was a safe approach when enconomic crisis happened.

Usually, when people think the economic situation is pretty good, the conomy will be decrease. Oppositely, when people think the economic situation is pretty bad, the conomy will be increase in the future. That is the circulation of the economy.
Compare to the rich people, the poor people, who were innocent, prefer to support for the 700- billion relief package.
On top of that American residents also have different opinion about the rescue bill. American common people hope the 700 billion should go to some local banks that can help people pass the difficult period.

personal response:

Taking into account the autour's opinion, I can come to the conclusion that there was a big discussion about Ameican economic crisis. In my opinion, I am agree with most of the concepts such as rescue bill, helping homeless people or common people and economic rules. However, I am disagree with the point that use 700 billions bucks to help the rich people who was the leader in the big ensurence company or investment bank.

American want more regulation of economy, poll finds
An L.A. Times/Bloomberg survey finds that nearly three-quarters of Americans say the lack of regulation is partly responsible for the current financial and housing crisis.

By David Pierson, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer 2:09 PM PDT, October 14, 2008

Ian Bagley thinks he pays too many taxes, says welfare rolls need to be reduced and that the private sector usually does a better job than the public sector. But after watching the housing market collapse and the stock market tank, the civil engineer from Kenosha, Wisc., now believes there is not enough government regulation of the economy.
A new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg national poll shows Bagley is far from alone. The survey found that nearly three-quarters of Americans thought the lack of regulation was partly responsible for the current financial and housing crisis. The need for stronger regulation of financial markets was cited most as the top issue for the presidential candidates to address in the remaining weeks of the campaign. And nearly half of those surveyed now think there is too little regulation of business."I always thought the least amount of government in peoples' lives, the better," said Bagley, 29, a poll respondent who was contacted in a follow-up interview. "But now you see what happens when you take it to the extreme."
The findings underscore deep concern in the nation's economy.Nine out of 10 polled said the economy was doing badly. More than three-quarters said the country was facing a crisis, and more than half were worried the downturn would threaten their household's financial security.Questions about what role government should play in preventing the crisis have moved to the forefront three weeks before Americans pick their new president and as the details of a $700-billion federal rescue plan to shore up the nation's financial system begin to unfold. At least 70% of respondents in each of a wide range of demographic categories blame the absence of more regulation for the nation's economic troubles. When asked to choose which of six economic issues was most important for Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama to address in their campaigns, bolstering regulation was most frequently cited -- roughly twice as often as taxes, housing foreclosures and unemployment.Overall, 45% of respondents said there was too little regulation in business; 27% said there was too much. This was not always the case.L.A. Times polls conducted in 1991 and 1981 -- both times of economic unease -- found that only 29% and 18%, respectively, thought there was too little regulation of business and industry. But the scope of the recent turmoil and decades of deregulation in Washington has likely contributed to reversing those attitudes."People are now seeing what happens when nothing is done," said Times Poll Director Susan Pinkus. The survey of 1,543 adults was taken between Friday and Monday, Oct. 10 through 13, and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.Among those who called for new regulations were 58% of Democrats and 24% of Republicans, along with 48% of those who live in households earning $100,000 or more a year and 48% of those with household incomes of $40,000 or less a year.Asked if the government should provide assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure, 61% said they were in favor and 27% opposed such a measure. Only three months ago, a Times/Bloomberg poll found 55% supported government assistance and 36% opposed it."This never should have happened," said Rita Lopez, 73, a retiree in Denver. "A little more regulation and this wouldn't have been such a big thing."The financial maelstrom could have been prevented, Lopez said, with a little common sense on the part of home buyers and lawmakers.Lopez, who grew up one of six children in rural Nebraska, said she learned early in life to live within her means. She and her husband have started buying necessities like toilet paper in bulk to save money. She's even resisted buying her favorite margarine at the grocery store after its price rose 50 cents. Now Lopez's daughter is trying to sell her home in Denver, but she's finding the task difficult in a depressed real estate market. The dour economic outlook has raised anxiety in the Lopez family, as it has for many American households. The 90% of Americans who said the economy was doing badly was the highest such figure since the Times Poll started asking the question in 1997. The previous high was 82%, registered in June. The all-time low came in a January 1999 poll in which only 8% of people thought the economy was doing badly and 89% thought it was doing well. Then the technology bubble burst and approximately half of Americans began souring on the economy over the following years, polls showed. While many more Americans appear to be willing to entrust the government with greater regulatory power, the poll found mixed support for the $700-billion relief package.Asked if Congress did the right thing in passing the legislation, 44% said yes and 37% said no. The opinion was different depending on wealth. Fifty-seven percent of respondents with household incomes of $100,000 or more a year favored the bill. By comparison, 43% of those with household incomes of $40,000 or less annually who supported the package.Only 5% of Americans were very confident the bill would stabilize the market and keep the economy from getting worse. Thirty-nine percent were somewhat confident, 29% were not too confident and 19% were not confident at all."I think taking $700 billion to help the economy is not a bad idea," said Craig Cohen, 55, an insurance salesman from Encino. "I just think the money is going to the wrong place. A lot should go to more local banks so they have money to offer credit."It shouldn't go to bailing out CEOs and places like AIG where they take a nice little vacation on us and get expensive massages," Cohen said. "I wish I could do that."

Personal Response:

According to the article, I have got some new inspiration form it such as learning cognitive factors and affective facfors. these kinds of opinions can help us to be a good second language learners. However, there are some ideas that I was not agree with them such as the opinion of the old language learners and language anxiety.

Second Language Learning

Summary:

According to Mitchell and Myles, the writter talk about the definition of the second language(l2) learners, which show us that l2 learners have alreay learned their birth language before they learn the second one, can be separated into formal learning style and informal learning style. L2 learners can learn their second language in various ways and also can use their second language in different places. Most second language learners prefer to choose english to be their second language because english is more popular than others. Moreover, the author talked about the learner as language processor. The mental system decide who can be a successful learner no matter learner get information from society or school. There were some critical opinions which discuss about language between young L2 learners and old L2 learners. Although L2 learners study Ls in the same way, they may have different results because they have different persinalities. There are two important aspects such as the cognitive and the affective. congnitive factors are intelligence, language optitude and language strategies. Intelligence would help learners be to a successful language learner, at least in school or formal learning style. Language optitude was different from intelligence. There was a test regarding the language aptitude. Learners who ues some strategies is better than others although there are many different strategies between the learners. Affective facotors are language attitude, motivation and language anxiety. the possitive language attitude can make L2 learners become a good language learners. Motivation was a complicated system that can separate in some ways such as hoping to learn, taking a lot of efforts and correct attitude. Language anxiety was a negative aspect for learning L2 because language anxiety can make learners to be more nervous and shy. Moreover, the learner as social being was a big part for L2 learners as same as the learner as language processor. (Mitchell & Mules , pp. 17-20)
